Background

John McLearen founded Strategic Foresight LLC to apply the disciplines of Strategic Foresight and Causal Inference — the same analytical methods he uses to manage complex infrastructure portfolios — to strategic consulting for Oklahoma’s core industries. His career spans healthcare infrastructure, energy engineering, enterprise sales, and digital marketing strategy, giving him a uniquely cross-functional perspective on organizational growth.

Bernhard (ENFRA) — Program Manager, Energy Engineering

As the trusted advisor to C-suite leadership at Mercy health system in St. Louis, John oversees a $37.4 million Energy Stewardship Program across more than 40 hospitals and healthcare facilities — part of a $100 million capital investment plan for critical infrastructure renewal spanning 14 million square feet.

He manages cross-functional technical teams of 15–25 members delivering BAS upgrades, chilled water system conversions, LED retrofits, and Monitoring-Based Commissioning. The results speak for themselves: $9.4 million in identified annual savings, projected $109 million in net operating savings over 20 years, and 119.37% of targeted cost savings achieved ($2.03M actual vs. $1.85M target) — with zero lost-time safety incidents across a four-year tenure.

John also guided the development of “Program Management as a Service” (PMaaS), standardizing PMI artifacts across multiple business units and securing $1.58 million in utility incentive funding for Mercy facilities.

Johnson Controls — Owner Account Representative

Ranked as the #1 sales performer in Oklahoma for three consecutive years, John secured over $6 million in building automation modernization contracts with a 63% average year-over-year sales increase. He negotiated a landmark Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC), converting a failing 22-year-old contract into a fully funded $4.6 million infrastructure upgrade — including magnetic bearing chiller installation and variable primary flow conversion.

Mercy Washington

ESPC Conversion
Restructured a failing 22-year contract into a fully funded $4.6M infrastructure upgrade with $50K annual savings.

Teaching & Academic Role

John serves as Adjunct Professor in the Economics Department at the University of Central Oklahoma, teaching Managerial Economics to MBA students at the Santa Fe Downtown Graduate School of Business and Introduction to Business to Undergraduates at the University of Central Oklahoma Edmond Campus two days per week. His courses integrate real-world case studies — drawn directly from his work in the field — covering pricing strategy, demand forecasting, cost analysis, and profit optimization.

This dual role as Academic-Practitioner sharpens his ability to apply formal economic theory and Strategic Foresight methodology to every client engagement, rooted in research and analysis. He doesn’t just advise on strategy — he teaches the frameworks that underpin it, develops the implementation, and manages the execution.

Founder’s Perspective

Strategic consulting should be more than frameworks and presentations. It requires the analytical rigor of engineering, the operational pragmatism of management, and the systems perspective to understand how decisions cascade through organizations. I founded Strategic Foresight to bring that same discipline — the same Causal Inference and Strategic Foresight methodology I use to manage $100M infrastructure programs — to every client engagement, regardless of scale.
